Catalogue 50
Books about Books
Books about Books
There are more books about books than about any other subject ‒ Montaigne
Not all that long ago, I became a rare book dealer when bookstores became scarce and librarians dumped books in trash bins by the ton. Call it a form of bibiomania. Call it book madness!
The bookstore was called books@jerome, and featured books about books.
Issuing catalogues was a customary practice among dealers in rare books, so I prepared one.
As a form of puffery, mine was entitled Catalogue 50. It was all about Books about Books. It enjoyed especially limited circulation. It is now a rare antiquarian artifact itself.
A handful of copies remain. It also resides on a hard disk in a defunct desktop computer.
The plan is to retrieve the Catalogue from the hard disk, or to scan one of the remaining copies of the Catalogue, and then post it for subscribers.
Tops on the ‘To Do’ List.
